These are the current rules for our linkshell. They have evolved over several years and generally work well for us, but we are always willing to consider additions and alterations.
If anyone wishes to discuss these rules, please do so in the members' area of the forums.
Screwdriver Rules
General Rules
Conduct During Runs
Loot
Information Exchange
We currently maintain forums and a points and drops tracking website. These websites exist for everyone's benefit, and are expected to be used. Specifically:
Security
We work hard as a group to provide our members with valuable rewards, and we do not wish for the fruits of our labors to be lost. However, we are not the FFXI Account Police. Keeping that in mind:
Attendance Policy
Attendance at all Screwdriver runs is encouraged, but not required; we simply ask that you keep the shell informed if you need to miss a run. Lack of attendance can, however, affect your eligibility for lotting gear as described later in these rules. Members that are regularly not in attendance without notification may be dropped from the shell.
Screwdriver members may not enter dynamis with any other shell without the express prior approval of the shell leadership. Violation of this rule will usually result in immediate dismissal from Screwdriver.
The "New Dynamis" system allows players to enter city/northlands dynamis once per JP day. The CoP/Tav reentry timer is separate, and is still a 72 hour cooldown. Because we do not plan daily dynamis runs, we now allow members to run with other shells, subject to the following restrictions:
We do maintain a working relationship with certain other shells and occasionally members of one shell may run with another, usually for a specific purpose. Members running as guests with other shells must be on their best behavior, and guests running with our shell must be treated with respect by all members.
Members wishing to have a qualified substitute player operate their character for a run should notify the leaders at least a day prior to the run. The sackholders reserve the right to disallow a substitute player.
Point System and AFv2 Lotting Rules
Each run is worth a potential of four points. The first point is for showing up (to the zone, or an appropriate location for changing jobs) 15 minutes before scheduled entry. The remaining three points represent approximately equal shares of play time (approximately one hour) over the duration of the run. Only one set of "points" will be tracked, and will apply to main and secondary lotting priority and payout share. Full points will be awarded to members who are late due to job changes or other actions requested by LS leaders.
Leaders may adjust points as necessary, including instances of bad behavior or repeated major errors.
A member may choose a main job and/or a secondary job. Only jobs that are 70+ may be selected as a main job (this restriction no longer applies to secondary jobs). These job choices are only for the purposes of lotting AF in city and Northlands areas. Under certain circumstances involving mules, a player may also choose supplemental jobs. Although we allow members to select jobs for AFv2 that they do not necessarily use in dynamis regularly, members may not select jobs which they are unwilling or unable to use in dynamis at all.
A member must have accumulated 10 points (out of 24 possible) over the past 6 runs in order to be eligible for main and secondary lotting rights. This is less than the full points awarded for attending three runs. Members who do not meet this requirement will be able to lot at the "ineligible member" priority as described below.
New members having fewer than 30 total points may only lot on northlands AFv2 at the ineligible member priority. This rule does not apply to cities.
Leaders will determine who may lot AFv2 based on the following priority (highest to lowest):
Any member who is entitled to lot may defer to the next member according to priority with no penalty or loss in position for future drops.
Attendance records and points are maintained regularly in an online database that any member can view. Members are responsible for reviewing their records and bringing any errors to the attention of a sackholder in a timely manner.
Finally, the linkshell leadership may, at its discretion, waive the recent points requirement on occasion.
CoP Areas
CoP Areas operate under a different set of rules. Regular AFv2 drops are distributed according to current job selection and standard priority rules, but accessories and AFv2 -1 items are treated differently.
Members who do not have access to CoP areas will not receive points for CoP runs. Members who are available for a CoP run, but sit out due to the 36-person limit will be awarded full points. This does not apply to members who arrive both late and after we have filled all 36 spots.
CoP Eligibility
CoP lotting eligibility, as applied below, will be established by having earned 60 Total Points Earned (job change adjustments not applied) as well as having 10 or more Recent Points.
Accessories:
Members may choose one job before each run for accessories, and put this in /seacom. There will be four lotting tiers:
1) All CoP-eligible members with the job selected and able to equip.
2) All CoP-eligible members (any job) able to equip.
3) All ineligible members with the job selected and able to equip.
4) All members with the job 60+.
5) Freelot.
AFv2 -1:
Members may choose one job before each run for AFv2 -1, and put this in /seacom. There will be four lotting tiers:
1) All CoP-eligible members with the job selected, able to equip, and owning the NQ version.
2) All CoP-eligible members (any job) able to equip, and owning the NQ version.
3) All ineligible members with the job selected, able to equip, and owning the NQ version.
4) Freelot.
AFv2 costs a significant amount to upgrade, and members not actually intending to buy currency for the upgrade should not lot against members who do intend to complete the item.
Members may choose different jobs before each CoP run.
"Able to equip" means having the job leveled to the appropriate level, not necessarily being in attendance as that job.
Tavnazia and Split Runs
Tavnazia rules are listed here: orangex.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2941
Because Tavnazia only allows 18 members to participate, we sometimes conduct a second run concurrently in another area. One of the runs will use the Screwdriver linkshell, while the other will use our special events shell, Mojito. Members may discard their Mojito pearl following the run since it is not frequently used.
Due to limitations of the tracking website, neither the Tav run nor the concurrent run will count toward "recent points" if dual runs are conducted. The runs will count normally for future lotting priority and payout shares, however.
Tav runs may be planned well in advance, and the lineup as well as member jobs may be determined prior to the run. When this happens, members must first confirm their availability for the run on the forums, or they are not likely to be chosen for Tav. While the leaders will try to rotate members into Tav in a fair manner, the rigors and requirements of the zone dictate that it will not be possible to satisfy everyone.
Any member who says that he/she will be available for a given Tav run is expected to attend the concurrent run if not chosen for Tav. Members must make every effort to notify leaders of changes in availability, particularly those at the last minute. A "no show" to a Tav or concurrent run will greatly reduce your chances of being chosen for Tav in the future.
Dynamis Currency and Payouts
Currency, selected crafting materials, and mercenary fees are collected by the linkshell and sold to fund runs and cover miscellaneous expenses. Net profits are tabulated approximately once per calendar month and distributed to members.
Shares are prorated according to each member's total attendance for the runs tallied, and are typically paid out at the first run on or after the 15th of the following month. Only members who remain active in the shell may collect their shares. Any unclaimed or forfeited shares will be marked as canceled and returned to the bank for distribution in future payouts.
The linkshell bank holds a quantity of gil in reserve to ensure uninterrupted operation in case of slow currency sales. The amount in reserve may be adjusted at the discretion of the leaders by reducing or increasing the payout amount for a given pay period.
All financial data for the linkshell, including payout share amounts, is listed for all members to view via the online tracking database.
How you spend your payouts is generally up to you, with the following caveat: our success as a whole depends on the strength of our members, which includes both skill and gear. Because we offer equal shares to all members, we expect members to make reasonable investments in the jobs they frequently use in dynamis.
Job Changes
Members may change their main and secondary job designations at any time. However, points will be reduced as follows:
Mules
Players owning mules that participate in dynamis runs may choose between two sets of rules:
1.) Seperate Characters This option is intended for people who log in one character or the other, but not both, unless another competent person is running the mule. Each character accumulates points and lotting rights independently and is treated exactly as any other single character.
2.) Combined Characters, with supplemental job designations. This option is available for people who play one character or the other, or players who dual-box. Any points accumulated on one character will be duplicated on the other; however only one main and one secondary job designation
is allowed between both characters. Both designations can be assigned to either character, or they can be split. In addition, two supplemental job choices can be made (so that each character has two job choices total). Supplemental job designation allows the player to lot competitively at the same tier as "ineligible member" main and secondary lots.
Any player using a mule or dual-boxing must discuss the situation with shell leaders in advance and choose which set of rules will be applied.
Note: dual boxing is heavily discouraged, and keeping track of mules under the Combined Characters rule is a significant administrative burden. New members may be asked to attend for a significant period before being allowed to operate under these rules.
Edit 5/17/10 - Major Revision
Edit 7/9/10 - Added Security section.
Edit 1/12/11 - Removal of CoP Accessory ineligibility/waiting period. Minor language changes elsewhere.
Edit 6/13/11 - Secondary lv. 70 restriction removed. Brief mention of "New Dynamis" gear pending full revision. Runs with other shells ok.
Edit 2/3/12 - Struck out a few rules that are no longer applicable due to changes to the dynamis process.
If anyone wishes to discuss these rules, please do so in the members' area of the forums.
Screwdriver Rules
General Rules
- Members are responsible for becoming familiar with all rules and tactics published in these forums. There is a lot of information here, and we do not expect everyone to know everything on the first run, but it is obvious when someone has not made an effort to understand what is expected.
- All members must have at least one job level 65+ and Rank 6+ (both are required for entry).
- A member having multiple jobs 70+ that typically perform similar roles should bring the strongest job, unless specifically requested. For example, do not bring a 70 DRK if you have a 75 WAR with appropriate gear.
- Bring the medicines and supplies (including food) needed for particular zones.
Conduct During Runs
- Pay attention to your surroundings and instructions issued by leaders and other experienced players.
- Be careful not to aggro mobs when traveling in dangerous areas. Do not use autorun or /follow near undisturbed mobs.
- Wireless controllers are not recommended. If you choose to use one, make sure the battery is adequately charged prior to each run.
- Our linkshell is to be equipped from the gather time through the duration of our run. Because attendance is recorded by examining search results that may be restricted with the linkshell parameter, members who go off-shell may not receive full points for the run. Points will NOT be corrected or restored for members who were in fact present, but did not have the shell equipped.
As soon as possible following entry, hourglasses are to be bazaared for 1g so that they can be bought in an emergency. Hourglasses are to remain bazaared for the duration of the run unless otherwise instructed. Do not buy another member's glass without permission, and immediately discard all unbazaared glasses in your inventory after buying them.- During the run, LS chat should remain free from excessive off-topic conversation. As we all wish to have some fun during runs, the interpretation "excessive" will be somewhat flexible depending on the difficulty of the zone and the task currently at hand.
- All members should set their LS, party, and tell filters to "Hold".
- Please do not argue; issues or complaints requiring immediate attention should be taken to /tell. Non-critical issues should be discussed after the run and/or on the forums.
- Avoid spamming unnecessary text into party or linkshell chat with macros. Do not use text in macros for spam-spells like Cure, Utsusemi, nukes, etc.
An LS chat macro when raising another player is recommended. This will help reduce time wasted in attempting to raise players who have already have a pending raise.- No skilling up inappropriate weapons (i.e. trial weapons, C- rank weapons, etc.) during Dynamis. We are here to kill mobs quickly and efficiently.
- Do not use fireworks, as that may create lag for other players.
- Please do not complain about death; accidents happen and we will try our best to eliminate wipes. We also will attempt to provide Raise 3, but that will not always be possible. If you absolutely cannot accept a Raise 1, use a RR2 item.
Loot
- All dynamis currency is lotted by the leaders or other designated member and sold. Anyone receiving currency drops inadvertently is expected to return the drops to the linkshell.
- All crafting materials are allowed to auto-distribute. This is subject to change in the future, depending on the value of the various items.
- Any member may lot on any relic weapons at any time.
- Relic armor ("AFv2") lots follow the point system described below.
- "New Dynamis" ra/ex gear is distributed via a wishlist system. (Details will be added at a future time.)
- "New Dynamis" sellable gear is sold, with profits put toward monthly payouts.
- Members are NOT to pass AFv2, Shadow, or Hydra pieces that clearly drop with more than five minutes remaining, unless otherwise instructed. This is primarily to avoid "accidental" lots. Any unauthorized lot -- "accidental" or otherwise -- may be considered a hostile action, and may result in immediate removal from the run and/or shell.
- As an exception to the no-passing rule above, members may pass unlotted "rot drop" AFs that they do not want.
- Experience points scrolls will usually go to pullers, but may be allowed to auto-distribute. Sackholders may choose to designate scrolls to people (rarely) who need them (i.e. to avoid deleveling, or to get someone's level back.)
- Members may not proxy-lot items unless that item would otherwise become free lot or be lotted by an ineligible member. Proxy-lotting is defined as any instance where a character is logged in by someone who is not that character's normal player for the specific purpose of lotting on an item. This rule does not preclude the lotting of items by a qualified substitute player operating a character for the duration of the run.
Information Exchange
We currently maintain forums and a points and drops tracking website. These websites exist for everyone's benefit, and are expected to be used. Specifically:
- All members are required to monitor these forums on a regular basis, and are expected to keep up-to-date with the latest strategies and other important information posted here. It is not necessary to read our 'fun' posts, but the administration and strategy sections should be checked at least weekly.
- Members who know in advance that they will be unable to attend a run are expected to let others know via the forums.
- Registration and use of the points tracking website is optional but strongly recommended.
- Leaders are responsible for ensuring that the tracking website is updated in a timely fashion.
- Members are responsible for double checking attendance and job selection data on the tracking website, and bringing any errors to the attention of the leaders, also in a timely fashion.
Security
We work hard as a group to provide our members with valuable rewards, and we do not wish for the fruits of our labors to be lost. However, we are not the FFXI Account Police. Keeping that in mind:
- Members are strongly encouraged to obtain and use a security token to access their account(s). While not perfect, they are highly effective, and if you don't use one, your account is a sitting duck begging to be hacked.
- Members should exercise all other reasonable care in safeguarding their accounts, including the use of safe browsing practices.
- If ra/ex items are lost due to hacking/rollback, allowing a member to reacquire the items (including any necessary modification of lotting priorities) will be considered on a case by case basis by the leaders, and consideration will be given to whether the member used reasonable precautions to safeguard his/her account.
- Gil lost due to hacking/rollback cannot be replaced by the linkshell.
- Members who use our dynamis tracking website are prohibited from using the same password for that site as they do for either their SE or POL accounts. The tracking database does not store your password (a salted hash is used), but it could still be intercepted when you log in. I do not ever want it to even be possible for me to know your FFXI password.
- The tracking site is for use by members only. Do not share your password for this site. If a non-member wishes to view the site for some reason, have that person contact a leader.
Attendance Policy
Attendance at all Screwdriver runs is encouraged, but not required; we simply ask that you keep the shell informed if you need to miss a run. Lack of attendance can, however, affect your eligibility for lotting gear as described later in these rules. - You must maintain eligibility to enter our scheduled runs.
- You must conduct yourself in a respectable manner, as we still have a working relationship with other shells.
- You must inform the sacks of any relics or wishlist items you obtain so that we can keep our database up to date.
We do maintain a working relationship with certain other shells and occasionally members of one shell may run with another, usually for a specific purpose. Members running as guests with other shells must be on their best behavior, and guests running with our shell must be treated with respect by all members.

- Eligible secondary job members according to points (designated lots).
- All ineligible members with main or secondary job designation and all supplemental jobs (competitive lots, points not considered).
- All members with the job 70+ ("open lot 70+"), including those who have previously obtained a piece, upgraded it, and wish to re-obtain the piece for storage purposes.
- All members with the job 60+ who intend to continue leveling ("open lot 60+").
- All members who intend to level the job ("open lot any level").
- Anyone for any reason at all ("free lot").
Any member who is entitled to lot may defer to the next member according to priority with no penalty or loss in position for future drops.
Attendance records and points are maintained regularly in an online database that any member can view. Members are responsible for reviewing their records and bringing any errors to the attention of a sackholder in a timely manner.

- Secondary or supplemental job change to a job newly leveled to 70+: no reduction.
- Secondary or supplemental job change when main job is changed: no additional reduction.
- Secondary or supplemental job change when secondary or supplemental set is completed: no reduction.
- Secondary or supplemental job change to a job currently 70+ but not previously selected, no more than 1 change every 30 days: no reduction.
- Secondary job change at any other time: -20 points.
- Supplemental job change at any other time: -8 points.
